Saco & Biddeford Savings, based out of Saco Maine, is passionate about their Maine identity and serving their customers with the best experience and products possible. When the bank saw their website falling short with a less than user friendly navigation, outdated imagery, and a difficult login process, the bank turned to Pannos for help.

Project Goals

The Ask
Improve the Saco & Biddeford site to be more modern, user friendly, and dynamic to best serve the bank’s wide array of customers.

The Answer
An entirely new website with a new navigation, sitemap, content, and integrations that would take the banking experience with Saco & Biddeford to a whole new level.

Process

The first step in this process was to better understand the bank’s target market and the terminology they prefer when discussing finances to be integrated into the navigation and page content. After an extensive discovery session to understand the bank's current site and its overall user experience. The team got started reinventing the current sitemap to help users find resources and forms with maximum ease.

Once the new sitemap was developed, the content team in tandem with one of Saco’s in-house writers began to create content that fit the bank’s unique Mainer identity. Using friendly language and a groovy tone was essential to holding the audience’s attention throughout their experience.

After wireframes were developed, the design team took carefully selected fonts, colors, and graphics to match the sites neighborly Mainer feel. The deep greens, sprinkles of surprising fonts, and use of white space brought the site a new visual life.

The team also wanted to ensure that the bank’s website was able to be easily updated so the web team implemented universal rates. The old site did not have this feature before making it too difficult to keep rates updated across pages. Building out a universal rates feature would allow the bank to update rates once in their CMS and have the new rates reflected across the entire site.

From the newest dentist in town, to the athletic accomplishments of locals, the bank needed a place to honor the news of the community that they so deeply identify with (and give a little brag about their own accomplishments), thus was born the newsroom page: A place to catch up with your community that feels just a little bit nostalgic, like the newspaper dropped at your doorstep every week.

Results

The Pannos team was able to create a new website for Saco & Biddeford that featured universal rates, dynamic content, and a smoother login process which resulted in 100% positive sentiment from employees and customers alike.

The new site has 2.43s faster load speed than the previous site which also means it is loading 52% faster than their old one. This is a huge benefit to the overall user experience.

Additionally, since the new site loads 52% faster than their old one, users on average stay on the site for 1 minute and 40 seconds longer than the old site. This can also be attributed to the more engaging and appealing content on each page.

Additionally, average sessions duration increased 97% compared to the previous site.  From Aug 1 – Dec 31, 2023, compared to March 1 – July 31, 2023, there were 7,775 more users on the site post launch.

Saco & Biddeford’s new website attracted 15.8% more users than their previous site. In the current market, the battle for deposits and loan application is intense and drumming up new business is critical. Seeing new users on the site viewing accounts and applications is a huge payoff for all the hard work during the redesign and launch.
